My girls are officially Disneyphiles. “Frozen” was the gateway drug that has them jonesing for more.
Which has me struggling with a dilemma — trying to determine the proper viewing order of the Disney canon for Alexia and her little sister Talia. Alexia is dying to see “Finding Dory” when it opens this weekend, even though she hasn’t yet seen “Finding Nemo.”
(that’s what happens when you go on the Nemo ride at EPCOT all the time.)
I love that she wants to see the movie, but I wonder if the animation style of those older films will captivate them as much as modern computer animation in the newer Disney and Pixar films.
I’m leaning toward showing them the older films first, so that way they can gain an appreciation for classic animation. Because if we start with Pixar landmarks like “Finding Nemo” or “Toy Story”, it’s going to be tough to get them to fall for “Peter Pan” and “Lady and the Tramp” the same way I did as a wee lad.
One exception: I’ll hold off on showing them “Pinocchio” for awhile. The Pleasure Island sequence will send them straight to therapy.
