Talk about a gift from the Gods of Nostalgia.
Parents, you will soon have a golden opportunity to indulge in a childhood favorite with your kids, thanks to the determination and talent of some Eternia-loving creators.
A brand new episode of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe will debut at the San Diego Comic Con Wednesday night. That’s right, a new episode of the classic ’80s weekday afternoon cartoon that made couch potatoes out of a generation of kids.
I’m not talking about a lost episode that’s been unearthed. I don’t mean an episode from a reboot of the show, or a new iteration of He-Man like the 2002 Cartoon Network version. This episode was created by the Super7 animation team, in the same style, vein and timeline of the original. It’s the first new MOTU animation since 1985!
I embedded the trailer below so you can see just how dedicated these folks were to capturing the vibe of the original He-Man. It takes a special kind of fandom to do this kind of project, so I tip my Power Sword to them. This is clever as hell.
The original He-Man is so fantastically cheesy, those with lactose tolerance issues should be warned. But if you grew up on the ‘toon and now you have small kids of your own, how do you not watch this episode with them?
If you’re going to #SDCC, the episode will premiere at 10pm PST, at an outdoor screening venue at the corner of 8th Ave. and G, smack dab in the heart of the Gaslamp District. ( and yes, I’ll be checking it out)
Here’s a trailer of the new episode, which is called “The Curse of the Three Terrors.”
